Lashings World X1 - 27 June 2010

Twyford & Ruscombe CC has secured a match against the world famous Lashings XI on Wednesday, June 27, next year.

Lashings XI is a touring side comprised of former international cricketers. The household names currently playing for Lashings are: Phil Defreitas, John Emburey and Graeme Hick (England), Saqlain Mushtaq and Wasim Jaffer (Pakistan), Chris Harris (New Zealand) and Jimmy Adams and Courtney Walsh (West Indies). Past players include the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

You can learn more about Lashings World XI at http://www.lashings.co.uk.

The match - which will be held at Stanlake Meadow - is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the club in the local community, attract new playing and non-playing members, and raise much needed funds to secure the financial future of TRCC and allow it to grow.

At this early stage, we expect a minimum of 200 guests at Stanlake Meadow for a hospitality lunch and many general admission members of the public.  This is great exposure for our small, but perfectly formed, club.

We will achieve this audience by selling special hospitality tables (capacity of 10 per table) to local businesses and individuals. While the finer points are to be confirmed, I can tell you that a hospitality table will include a three course lunch, live entertainment, afternoon tea, and the chance to meet and dine with legendary international cricketers.

So, while this is a fabulous opportunity for both TRCC and its members,
this event cannot function without your support.

Last week, I chaired a meeting of the Lashings project team and believe we made some good, early progress in planning the event. But one thing became very clear, very quickly - we need a firm commitment of help from players, wives and girlfriends to make this special event happen.

On the day - which I am sure you would all like to be a part of - we need 30 people before the start of play to aid with logistics and facilitation. Once play has commenced, we'll need a dedicated (but smaller) team on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Many hands make light work - and in this instance, many hands help put our club in the forefront of people's minds and give it long-term sustainability.

So, please reply to me if you want to be a part of this amazing event.

Your help can come in any shape or form - for example, you might simply want to volunteer some time in the morning to help make tea for the players, or you might give an afternoon of your time to run a bar?

Please, please, please have a think about the physical hardware below.

Do you have, or know anyone who has, access or contacts in the following areas?

  • Marquee hire
  • Table and chair hire
  • Printing (both paper and shirts)
  • Burger/hot dog/hog roast stands
  • Ice cream vans
  • Skip hire
  • Local press (TV, newspaper and radio)
  • Car dealerships
  • Know an employer or local firm that would buy a hospitality table

Now is your time to step forward, folks.

  • Without you, this doesn't happen
  • Without you we won't raise a projected 10k for the club
  • Without you we won't attract new members to the club
