... as he met a legend of the game.

The aspiring player could not believe his eyes when he spotted Twyford & Ruscombe stalwart and West Berkshire U15s coach Adam Smith on a recent business trip.

“I’m new to the area and hopefully I can break into the Saturday side as a bowling all-rounder,” he said. “I hope to follow in the footsteps of all the Twyford greats who you see for two seasons and then never hear from again. I really believe I could be the next Nigel Leach and offer something with bat and ball, giving the skipper a real selection headache. I also don’t like setting up or packing way, so that’s handy.”

Smith, 34, added: “I’d no idea who the lad was when he nervously wandered up to me and asked to pick my brains about cricket.

“I was relaxing in the bar and adhering to El Presidente’s approved dietary guidelines when he asked for a picture together. “Obviously I am always happy to help new talent come through the ranks…..although whether this lad can oust Stevie Beamish from the attack I very much doubt.”
