TRCC vs. Harptree - August 26th 2014 (Tour)

No game on Sunday and downpour on Monday, TRCC were delighted to see that the rain was (pretty well) holding off for the final stop of the tour at Harptree Village (Home of clan Hogarth). The first innings was interrupted for 10 minutes or so, and light drizzle started to fall at the end with the light fading, but in between it was playable - We even got a little sunshine!

Twyford batted first, and considering the soaking outfield got off to a swift start - 51 off the first 12 overs! - with Weir & Barrable making (somewhat damp) hay. Weir was the first to fall, followed swiftly by Tim Hogarth (C&B Tom Hogarth!), and soon thereafter the other opener Barrable was also back in the pavilion. 62-3 - Were we to be humiliated as we were last year?

Step forward J Downes, and in a supporting role, H Fort. Joe seemed to have decided that the aerial route was the best way to avoid having to run too much, and powered his was to a quick & exciting 53 before being stumped. Hugh managed only 14 for his innings, but played a great helping hand by the mere fact of not getting out!

But that was it as far as fireworks went for TRCC. Only Hosegood (playing, I believe, his first game for the club) managed any sort of serious threat to the bowlers before the 35 overs were up. 147? Yeah - That was OK - We had something to defend!

Hackett & Hosegood opened the bowling for the visitors, and surprisingly (Considering the beer, excess of food, and the game of 'LaserQuest' played the day before) we accurate from the off. 13 overs in, Harptree were 3 men down and with only 29 on the board - They needed to up the run rate pretty quickly! But despite a fightback from Thomas and Tom Hogarth, no one from the home team was able to break out and get that high score that was required, ans the run rate rarely dipped below 5 an over. When the game came to an end Harptree were 122-9 - Not all out, but with the game being a fixed 35 overs, victory for Twyford!

But the best part of the day were Harptree themselves - Such a nice bunch of lads who were such fun to be with, and so accommodating to us visitors. Sincerely - Three cheers to them, and I hope we get to see them again next year.
