Welford Park - May 6th 2012

The wettest April for 100 years delayed the start of the 2012 campaign, but finally a dry weekend and off TRCC travelled to Welford Park. Situated high up there was no chance of flooding at this ground, and although the pitch was damp, it was playable.

Welford opened the batting, but were held back for the first ten overs due to the ball coming sluggishly on to the bat, and (for the first game of the season) some not too wayward bowling. But as the pitch dried further and bowling took a turn for the worse, openers Bonley and Chatterjabe started to make hay. The fall of the first wicket with the score on 69 brought no relief as new batsman W Herrington pushed the run rate even higher. Despite good fielding from Twyford, their bowlers had no means to stop the flow of runs. The final sore of 265-6 (Chadha run out off the last ball of the innings) looked daunting indeed.

Things did not improve for Twyford when they went in to bat. Wickets fell early and often - All four or the Welford bowlers proving difficult to play. The visitors were all out for 67 - Humbled by a far superior side. The only consolation Twyford could take away were the performances of brothers W and M Zahid playing their first game for TRCC, who with both bat and ball gave the visitors hope that the season could only improve!
