TRCC vs. Frieth - May 27th 2012

What a difference a week makes! From cold and overcast 7 days ago at Wooburn to glorious sunshine - blue skies from horizon to horizon - as Twyford travelled to the (difficult to find!) ground of Frieth.

Winning the toss, the visitors elected to field. The opening bowlers Hackett & J Downes were tight, restricting Frieth to just 42 runs off the first 20 overs while returning 3 batsmen to the pavilion. But with Wright and Cleg at the crease, slowly the tide began to turn for the home side, both punishing the loose ball, scoring many a boundary over the fast outfield. By the time for tea they had rescued their teams position to a respectable 162-7, but on what was a true  square this looked short of a winning total.

One (splendid!) tea later, it was TRCC's turn at the crease. Woodman and W Zahid built a creditable and swift opening partnership. And as the wickets fell this brought A Weir to the crease. Certainly (as far as the author is concerned) the best innings we have seen from Weir, partnered/steadied first by Woodman and then N Downes. When he was dismissed on 71 in the 35th over the bulk or Twyford's work was done - The winning runs were scored with 10 balls remaining in the innings.

For Twyford then, just about the perfect cricketing day. The bowling, batting, fielding & weather all above expectations. By much praise too to our gracious hosts, sporting gentlemen in their defeat.
