TRCC vs. Warfield - July 1st 2012

... And so it came to pass in the year of our lord Two-Thousand and Twelve that there appeared in the sky a great rent in the clouds, and there was dark fear among the people of the land. But lo! Shone fourth a great burning yellow globe, and warmth and light bathed the Earth for the first time that any other than the very eldest could remember. And there was great rejoicing among the people.

scripture of the British summer

After what seemed an interminable length of time - Cricket was on again!

TRCC travelled the short distance to the pretty ground of Warfield. The home side lost the toss and were asked to bat first, and the game began - Only for the rain to come down again after the first over! But the shower was brief, and play resumed after a quarter of an hour. Twyford's opening bowlers kept things tight on a fairly lively wicket. First Hackett struck, clean bowling Torry, and then a great catch from Narula sent the other opener back to the pavilion. New batsmen Johnson & Aroun looked more comfortable, but first rate fielding from the visitors kept the runs to a premium and added to the frustration of the batsmen. A great run-out from fielder C Fort, and three further catches (including an excellent flying one off a very firmly struck ball from Wilkins by Smith) removed the middle order. The tail did not wag, and the final score was 105 all out.

And when Twyford took to the crease, things continued to go their way. Woodman & W Zaheed put on 60 for the first wicket, effectively breaking the back of the task. Excellent spin bowling from youngster Birchall beat three batsmen, but these were to be the only consolations for the home team. Twyford cruised to victory with 10.2 over still remaining.

Mainly though, it was just great to be out playing cricket once more!
