TRCC vs. Woodcote - July 15th 2012

A brief respite from the week of rain meant the Twyford could visit long-time opposition Woodcote. Despite the previous downpours, the pitch - though soft - played very well throughout the game.

Winning a crucial toss TRCC captain H Fort put the home side in to bat, with immediate reward as Gordon was caught off the first (rather poor!) ball of the game - a sizzling shot well held by Leadbetter. And things continued to go Twyford's way right up to drinks after the 19th over - Woodcote had managed just 53 runs, but had only lost two wickets.

But, there was obviously something in the drinks, as upon resumption of play Anderson & Fuller really went after the bowlers! 5 10-run overs in a row saw the game swing dramatically in the home side's favour, with Strokes hitting a lovely 61 in quick order. By the end of the innings Woodcote had amassed 196 runs, and Twyford were left wondering what had gone wrong!

Twyford began their innings in fine form, with boundaries a-plenty. But the bowling did not deserve such contempt, and combined with Woodcote holding all their catches, wickets began to tumble. When the 5th wicket fell with just 48 on the board, the writing was on the wall. The final score of 94 all out was not a humiliation, but it was a sound thrashing!

So Twyford Sundays team's unbeaten run of 7 matches (mainly down to the rain!) came to an end. But as we sat in the pub afterwards the sun came out, and all was well in the world. Many thanks to our hosts for a great game.
