TRCC vs. Sulhampstead - August 18th 2012

Hottest day of the year saw league toppers Sulhampstead pay a visit to a struggling but revitalised TRCC. Sulhampstead won the toss and batted, probably fancying making a game of it after bowling TRCC out at their place for 30 something earlier in the season. However, previous match reports notwithstanding, TRCC had the luxury of more than 11 players available by the Wednesday team sheet announcement for probably the first time this year and there was a certain air of defiance. Beamish and Walkland opened the bowling and were soon in the wickets, including a very nice C&B for Walkland. 3 down at drinks and TRCC were all smiles and Sulhampstead maybe rocking just a little. Cochrane threw down some of his usual darts and Nichols started to find that off side line that causes so many issues for batters. Wickets continued to fall with Cochrane picking up two sharp catches at 1st slip (off Walkland and Nichols) and before we knew it Sulhampstead were heading for an early tea, 10 overs short and all out for 116! Unbelievable performance in the field by TRCC with Beamish, Walkland and Nichols sharing the wickets and not a dropped catch in the day. Surely TRCC dared to believe they know how to use the wooden thing? Unfortunately not. Unspectacular but accurate bowling produced a steady stream of wickets. Barrable and Cochrane stemmed the flow for a short while but Cochrane top scoring with a miserable 17 and a host of poor shots and defensive techniques found TRCC all out for just 61 or so.
A strange day for sure given TRCC hardly expected to get much from the game points wise, got themselves into an marvellous position but failed to capitalise on the situation. 5 bowling points though must surely provide some solace and the 2 points for providing an umpire might yet still prove vital to staying up. There was further disappointment to learn that Catcliffe Way had beaten WSL but it doesn't change the situation much for TRCC in that we still just need to win the last two games against Catcliffe Way and Warfield to give ourselves a chance! Its still within our own hands if we are prepared to fight to stay up!!!
