TRCC vs. Wargrave - July 24th 2011

For the first time in weeks, TRCC were playing away...
but did not have far to travel to long-time opponents Wargrave. A beautiful day, such a contrast the past two weeks, greeted the visitors - A proper English summer day. The game was to be 40 overs.

Winning the toss, captain H Fort elected to bat, and the home side were in the field under the hot sun. The bowling limited the runs scored, but the opening batsmen did not look too troubled. The pitch was giving just about perfect bounce and the outfield was swift - Surely a day for a large total! The first wicket fell surprisingly with the score on just 11, but then Woodman & Barrable were in their element! Both scored 50, with Barrable continuing to his best ever score for the club of 76 before being caught on the boundary going for 'the big one'. The final score of 194 from the 40 overs did not look too bad - Certainly something to bowl against!

But Twyford had not reckoned with the strong batting line up that Wargrave had prepared - Especially in the form of P Drew. The left hander never appeared to be in any trouble from the bowlers, who were in any case somewhat less than penetrating. As the runs mounted fast, Twyford's spirits flagged under the blazing sunshine, fielding & bowling both suffering. But when Robinson joined Drew at the crease, at least the suffering was short lived! Robinson was well "In the zone", and hit his 41 in under 30 balls - taking 22 in one over alone!

The end, when it came, was swift. Drew reached his century with the winning runs - A fitting end to an excellent batting performance. So, Twyford outclassed (again!) by superior batting, but a good game of cricket was had by all!
