On a hot, tour affected day, Twyford's penultimate league game of 2007 was a must win. After
winning the toss, a steady opening partnership between Benjamin and Leigh got Twyford off to the
solid start they required on a pitch that encouraged slow ball movement. The introduction of
whip-cracking Captain Wincott and South African spin nymph Sexon removed the chance of a giant
total, and after a collapse of Richard Kiel proportions, Twyford managed a poor 110.
After a feisty match earlier in the season, the banter re-fired in the return match, stumpsman Smith eventually had to be sedated. The match was certainly in the balance for long periods, and containment bowling from Nichols, Green and Jones looked as if Twyford may sneak the win. However, gammy-stance Williams proved an immovable object and Goring crept home by 3 wickets. Balls. |
