TRCC vs. Wooburn Narkovians - 16th May 2004

Bright sunshine once more after two consecutive weekends affected by rain saw Wooburn Narkovians visit Twyford last Sunday.

Winning the toss, Wooburn wisely elected to bat in hot and humid conditions that made fielding quite a chore. The opening pair of Seuek and White made hay thanks to poor opening spells from Hackett and Beamish, hitting runs at almost six per over for the first eight overs. Things only started to improve for Twyford once Downes (Capt.) and Evans were brought on, slowly stemming the flood of runs. Seuek passed 50 before being stumped, with many other Narkovians contributing good scores. In a fine spell, Downes ended up taking 5 wickets, and Hackett and Beamish partially redeemed themselves in their second spells. But the Wooburn total of 201 for 9 looked an imposing target.

Wooburn began in the field with some fine, tight bowling from Sturgess, J Morris and White, making runs very hard to come by for the Twyford openers. The pressure paid off in the 8th over when Seymour was LBW for 9. After an exuberant flourish of boundaries, Benson soon followed back to the pavilion. Woodman and Hall then had the only stand of significance for Twyford, but when Woodman fell with the score on only 62 the weak tail was exposed! The young Briggs was the bowler who cleaned up, his fine accuracy with the spin dismissing 5 Twyford players while conceding only 14 runs.

A well deserved victory for Wooburn against an under-par Twyford.
