TRCC vs. Crowthorne - 25th April 2004

A more clement start to the season would be difficult to imagine, warm but with high cloud obscuring the sun, more that we could hope for in late April.

Winning the toss, Twyford elected to bat. But with first game aches and pains to deal with, this was soon looking like a bad decision with runs coming slowly but wickets with unnerving frequency. By the 20th over only 37 runs had been scored but 5 batsmen had returned to the pavilion, with Benson alone reaching double figures. Tight bowling from Atkinson, Long and Elrick kept Twyford pinned down.

Rod Edney then showed early season form, with many a forthright stroke making it to the boundary. He was soon joined by Cochrane at number nine showing superb form, scoring his maiden 50 for Twyford. Between them they managed to see Twyford on the seemingly unattainable score of 126 before Edney was run out. Cochrane then continued, helping to see Twyford to 148 all out.

In response, Crowthorne faired not much better than Twyford to begin with. Tight spells from Hackett and Beamish kept runs low and wickets falling, soon leaving the home side on 25-3. But then steadfast innings from Hampshire and R Stent saw the tide swing Crowthorne's way. When Hampshire departed in the 20th over Twyford again made good headway, until Long giving a spirited tail end performance, leading to a well deserved Crowthorne victory.

Both teams had to agree - A fine way to start the season!
